Master's Degree Overview
AICN offers a Professional Master's Degree in Clinical Neuroscience (M.C.N.) Upon the successful completion of the six semester (85credits) course of study, graduates will be awarded a professional Master's degree in Clinical Neuroscience (M.C.N.).
The six semester program combines academic and clinical experiences in an intensive learning experience. The combined course load and practicum requirements involve long hours and a highly variable schedule. Students should expect to spend an average of 80 hours a week during the program. Practicum experiences will include early arrival at the practicum site (sometimes this requires leaving the office at 4:00 am ). Sometime cases take longer than expected or additional cases are added, requiring late returns to Atlanta or remaining in the practicum site location overnight.
At the completion of the first year, the student will take the CNIM® exam sponsored by ABRET. The exams are described on the ABRET
website.
ACCREDITATION: The Atlanta Institute of Clinical Neuroscience is a new school offering a program of study in an emerging field and is in the application process for accreditation.
AICN is committed to providing the best learning opportunities for those who want a career at this level of professionalism. Consistent with this commitment, AICN is soliciting academic, organizational, or technical input from a variety of organizations and agencies to meet accreditation standards.
ACADEMIC TRANSFERABILITY: Since AICN is not yet accredited, students who plan to earn a degree from AICN and continue their academic education are encouraged to contact that university to determine transferability of course credits.
JOB-SEARCH ASSISTANCE: The demand for skilled Clinical Neurophysiologists far exceeds the number of trained clinicians. This situation will continue for a number of years. The American Society of Electroneurodiagnostic Technologists maintains a current listing of positions for CNIM technologists. The American Society of Neurophysiologic Monitoring lists positions for individuals with ABNM certification. Both of these listings are available to students in AICN's program. The Director of Clinical Education will also assist each graduate of AICN in finding the best employment opportunities.
CLINICAL EXPERIENCE: An essential element in the AICN student's experience is placements in clinical settings. AICN utilizes hospitals in Georgia and surrounding states. To broaden the scope of the experience, urban, rural and suburban hospitals are used.
Specific knowledge and skill expectations for AICN students can be found at Professional Testing Corporation's website (www.ptcny.com) under “ABNM Certification in Neurophysiologic Monitoring”.
